This Friday, the Syracuse Men’s Hockey team will pay tribute to the brave men and women who serve our country as they take on Oswego in a highly anticipated Military Appreciation Night matchup. The Orange will once again recognize sophomore Brendan Duffy, a member of ROTC, for his dedication and service—marking his second consecutive year receiving this honor.

“Both my parents served, my sister is at West Point right now,” Duffy said. “I’m here playing at Syracuse in the ROTC program so there’s a lot of pride. I love my country.”

Building on the energy from the Pink the Rink game back in October, which raised awareness for breast cancer, Syracuse looks to carry that momentum into Friday’s matchup.

Syracuse battles Oswego in a game that’s about more than just hockey—it's a chance to honor those who serve while pushing for another key victory. In honor of who served, tonight will include a Hall of Fame jersey raffle, Chuck-a-Puck, a merchandise giveaway, and a live performance of the national anthem by Orange Squeeze, one of SU’s a cappella groups.

Tonight's Matchup:

Last weekend, the Orange traveled to Pennsylvania to take on Drexel University. A midnight showdown on Friday ended in a high-scoring 8-7 shootout loss, but Syracuse bounced back the following morning with a 4-3 victory, splitting the weekend series.

This weekend, the Orange will face the Oswego Lakers, with the series split between home and away games. The last time these two teams met, Oswego secured the series win with an 8-4 victory, followed by a narrow 5-4 win at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Despite strong individual performances, Syracuse struggled to contain Oswego’s relentless offensive pressure.

Oswego currently leads the NECHL division with 39 points and sits at No. 14 in the conference rankings, while Syracuse is at No. 41. Lakers forward Carter McWilliams, a key player to watch, ranks top five in the league with 46 points this season. Oswego enters the weekend coming off a 5-3 win over Plattsburgh State last Friday.

Syracuse and Oswego will face off tonight, February 7th and 8th at 7:00 PM. The night game will be at Tennity Ice Pavilion, followed by Saturday’s matchup at Marano Ice Arena.

All home games at Tennity Ice Pavilion are free for Syracuse students and the general public.

Fans can also catch the action live on the SU Hockey Network.

“The army and the military in general is like a family,” Duffy says, “You have to be close to your brothers out there in the battlefield whether on or off the ice. So you have to be a family.”
